Greenbelt resident Rosa Diaz-Santos had last been seen on the morning of Thursday, Sept. 22 on her way to Elanor Roosevelt High School before her body was found last week in the woods near the 1600 block of Drexel Street in Prince George’s County.
In response, a GoFundMe campaign was started on behalf of Diaz-Santos’ family, which raised more than $7,000 of its stated $30,000 in 24 hours.
“It’s with a heavy heart we announce that our beautiful angel Rosa Maria gained her wings to heaven,” organizers of the fundraiser wrote. "Rosa was loved by everyone that met her and she has left a huge empty hole in all her family and friends' lives.
“Rosa gaining her wings was a huge shock to everyone and this is a devastating time for all those who loved her.”
In response to the unexpected passing, the Diaz-Santos family asked that the community “help with a contribution of any amount towards giving Rosa the send-off she deserves.”
“May everyone with a heavy heart feel light again and the memory of Rosa and her bright smile remain in our hearts forever. We are very thankful to those who donate.”
